Gamestop stops taking PS4 preorders
Even
though Microsoft has backtracked on some of its more ridiculous Xbox One “features”
it doesn’t seem like they will be able to make up the ground they’ve already
lost to Sony. In a story posted by Joystiq yesterday, Gamestop announced that
they will no longer be taking pre-orders for the Playstation 4. Even though the
console is still months away from release, the demand for the next-generation
console was so high that one of the largest video game retailers in America has
no more pre-orders to give.
I’m honestly not that surprised. With the mainly negative reaction to the Xbox One, it shouldn’t be any surprise that Sony would benefit from the consumer backlash. And if you’ve ever dealt with Gamestop before, you know how much they push for you to pre-order or reserve any upcoming titles or hardware so for them to say that they aren’t taking any more preorders on an expensive item, you know the amount of preorders for the PS4 must be obscene.
The same Joystiq article mentions that Amazon too is out of launch-day standalone consoles for the PS4. The online retailer still has some launch bundles with games for pre-order but those seeking solely a PS4 console from Gamestop or Amazon and don’t already have a pre-order in seem to be out of luck. There are other retailers out there who will no doubt be stocking PS4s, like Best Buy or Target, though I’m not entirely sure the pre-order policies of those businesses are.
New
feature
With
the summer game lull in full effect, I’ve been toying with ideas for new
features and original pieces for this blog and am almost ready to unveil my
next project. It’s a bit different from what I’ve done in the past as it’s more
of a creative writing piece than anything else, but don’t worry it’s still very
much video game related. I’m hoping to have the first part up tomorrow so be
sure to be on the lookout for that.
