Season Pass and DLC announced for WWE 2K14

I’ve
been away for a while, I know, but it’s only been because I’m still yet to be
satisfied with GTA V. It has its hooks me and I haven’t been able to tear
myself away. If you’re looking for a review, I dunno, go read some of my
previews or literally any other site on the web. Besides, if you don’t know
whether or not you want to play GTA V by now…how are you even at my blog?
So,
in moving away from the time vampire known as GTA V let’s move onto something
much more serious, much more important – wrasslin’!
Yes,
folks, as with most sports games the WWE seems intent on releasing a new
wrestling game every year. But for the first time in many years, there has been
a major change in the production of WWE’s annual release. WWE 2K14 will be the
first WWE game developed by 2K Sports since publisher Take-Two acquired the
license after THQ filed for bankruptcy.
What
does that mean for the game? It seems there will be some changes to the
mechanics in terms of character movement, animation speed and tweaking the
counter/reversal system. 2K will definitely be looking to put its mark on the
series with this installment. One way that 2K is putting its stamp on the
series is the “30 Years of Wrestlemania” mode. Similar to last year’s Attitude
Era mode, this single player campaign takes gamers back through the decades in
a look at the biggest showcase in professional wrestling. Players will be able
to participate in historic matches that feature unique objectives to accurately
recreate the events of the fabled spectacle, as they did with the Attitude Era
last year. Numerous legendary characters have been added to the roster and
classic WWE footage will help immerse players in the history and legacy of the
event. There will also be “The Streak” mode in which players can defend or try
to break the Undertaker’s 21-0 undefeated streak at Wrestlemania.
WWE
Universe mode is also said to be expanded as well as the Create-A-Wrestler
feature. But that stuff isn’t what I’m here to talk about today. What I want to
talk about is “Yeah, all that stuff is cool…but what ELSE am I gonna get?”
Well, according to the information recently released about the Season Pass for
WWE 2K14, a whole heck of a lot.
First
off, the Season Pass is only $20 and nets you the Accelerator, nWo pack, WWE
Superstars and Moves pack and the WWE Legends and Creations pack. And for
buying the Season Pass, you’ll also get access to Outsider themed versions of
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. And you know how much I love to say this…but wait!
There’s more!
The
Accelerator functions like it did in WWE ’13. Buying it will allow you to
adjust the rankings and attributes of every wrestler in the game and as well as unlocking
every wrestler, attire and venue. You
should also be able to use Superstar attire and character model elements for
your own CAWs. Speaking of CAWs, I’ve heard that they’ve doubled the amount you
can save – from 50 to 100. My biggest hope is that 2K has better servers than
THQ did for the online portion of WWE 2K14, because it was often a hassle to even access the WWE '13 User Creation servers, let alone find what you're looking for.
The
first DLC pack to be released, scheduled for November 2013, is the nWo Pack.
Purchasing this pack will also net you New World Order themed versions of Scott
Hall, Kevin Nash, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Syxx (X-Pac), Scott Steiner and
Curt Hennig. The Giant (aka the Big
Show) will also be available for free when this pack is released.
The
next pack, Superstars and Moves, is scheduled for release in December 2013.
When it is released, players will be able to download Summer Rae for free and
those who purchase it will also get Fandango (YES!), Big E. Langston (YES!) and
the Bella Twins (WHY?). But along with those (mostly) great DLC Superstars, you’ll
get over 30 new moves and taunts. Hit the link at the top of the story to see
the complete list but a few that caught my eye are the Leaping Tombstone
Piledriver pin combo, the moonstomp, the Package Piledriver, the Psycho Driver
and the hilariously titled Soda Plunge (the Pepsi Plunge - CM Punk’s finisher
on the indies).
The
final pack, Legends and Creations, is scheduled for release in January 2014. When
it is, Virgil will be available, free of charge (which I’m sure only Virgil is
stoked for) and purchasing the pack will also net you Bruno Sammartino, “The
American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and “Ravishing” Rick
Rude. You’ll also get the heads and models of Superstars like Antonio Cesaro,
Dolph Ziggler, Goldberg and short hair Triple H to use in the CAW mode. There
are plenty others, just hit the link at the top to see the rest of the list.
