February is Battlefield 4 Player Appreciation Month

As a way to say thanks to players who have stuck with Battlefield 4 throughout its first few tortured months of existence, developer EA DICE has deemed that February will be “Player Appreciation Month." Starting the first of the month, players will be able to participate in special assignments as well as receive special daily giveaways.

Every weekday that players log into Battlefield 4 in Feb. they will earn a Bronze Battlepack while every weekend day will earn players a Silver Battlepack, which instantly unlock weapon attachments, skins as well as boosts that can enhance how much XP players earn. Additionally, two shortcut bundles will be available. The first bundle, available to everyone, will unlock all grenade and pistol types for players. The second bundle, available only to BF4 Premium players, will unlock all DMR and shotgun types. And finally, DICE has stated that certain weekends will also feature double XP events for everyone.

When Battlefield 4 launched, there were several problems with the game and servers that caused headaches for players trying to access the multiplayer portion of the game as well as server outages and loss of save game data. These problems were only exacerbated when the Xbox One and Playstation 4 players joined the fray and only in the past few weeks has the BF4 community experienced any kind of stability from the game and servers. DICE is hoping that these freebies will be enough to make up for any time players lost or for their overall frustrations while trying to play BF4 in the early days of its release.

I’ve only been playing BF4 in the two weeks or so that I’ve owned a PS4 and haven’t had any problems with the game or servers personally, but I’ll gladly snatch up any free stuff that DICE wants to send my way. I even considered getting Premium just to unlock all the DMRs and shotguns, but I doubt I’ll actually do that. It’s great that DICE wants to make nice with the many gamers out there frustrated by the early days of BF4’s launch, but maybe they could’ve picked any other month besides the shortest of the year to make “Player Appreciation Month.” Just a thought.
